We’re currently looking for a new R&D Intern to join our small, highly capable engineering team. This is a remote full time position starting ASAP for between 3-9 months (depending on start date and projects). The successful applicant will work under the direct guidance of both our Product Engineering Lead and our CTO, both of whom are deeply involved in our diverse range of R&D projects.
Your role will involve investigating and prototyping agentic AI methodologies that go beyond traditional Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) approaches. This includes Model Context Protocol (MCP) for standardised integration with enterprise systems and multi-agent orchestration. You'll gain hands-on experience with the critical infrastructure and development tools that underpin these advancements, including Kubernetes for containerization, GCP & IBM Cloud for scalable deployments, and a diverse set of programming languages and frameworks such as Ruby on Rails, JavaScript (Vue/React), Python, and API development for robust connectivity.
To be considered suitable for this role, you must be completing (or within the last 12 months have finished) a Master’s or PhD in science, engineering, technology, design, or business. Your studies must be at a New Zealand tertiary institution and you’ll be legally permitted to work full time in New Zealand. Alternatively, you’ll be an NZ Citizen who has studied appropriately overseas. This position is intended to be your first full time role directly related to your field of study.
You’ll have an interest in generative AI, advanced software architecture for AI systems and the application of emerging AI paradigms in a real work technology context. You will thrive within a fast paced environment, adapt quickly to new challenges and opportunities and be comfortable working across multiple projects and technologies in a client facing role. With exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, you’ll be a driven self-starter with a curiosity to learn, ask questions and continue to grow.
Are you ready to help shape the future of AI and be part of a dynamic team? Do you want to fast track your AI skills and expand your expertise? Please contact Emma Roberts on 022 067 2600 if you’d like to discuss this opportunity, or send your CV and cover letter to emma.roberts@elementx.ai outlining why you’re suitable for the role.
